Ewe wood mask, 'Healing Power'

Opening his mouth to intone a magical phrase, this enigmatic personage is believed to possess the power of healing. Masks like this one by Walter Kuma are used among the Ewe people of Ghana's Volta region. They are worn by the priest as he performs rites for the sick.
